MUSCLE MLK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK



It was a stellar weekend for “Hat Trick” Hannah Haughn of the UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team.

The North Vancouver, B.C., native scored three goals in a 9-0 win against the University of Calgary Dinos on Saturday and then repeated the feat on Sunday as the T-Birds clinched the Canada West championship with a 4-0 victory. For her player she was named the Canada West Second Star of the Week.

Coming into the weekend, UBC needed to sweep the two-game set and outscore the Dinos by at least nine goals in the process to win the league title ahead of the University of Victoria on a tiebreaker.

The six goals by the third-year Arts student were a huge reason UBC was able to regain the Canada West banner from Victoria.

Haughn's performance on the weekend also allowed her to win the conference scoring race with 11 goals on the season. She was named a Canada West All-Star on Sunday.
