Supporter Spotlight - Barb Hart Harris 1963 Canadian National Team Barb Hart Harris

Barb (B.A. 1957, M.Ed. 1984, SFU), who played for the UBC Thunderbirds Women's Field Hockey team starting in 1953, is paying it back to the program that contributed to the "greatest time of [her] life". Never having held a field hockey stick, she knew she wanted to play sports — and the field hockey team had the best record and got to travel to tournaments across the Northwest, an appealing prospect to a farm girl from the northern edge of Port Moody, BC.  Barb took a chance, was selected for the team and never looked back. A recent inductee to the Canadian Field Hockey Hall of Fame as a Builder, Barb has contributed to the sport of field hockey and her community on and off the field.

Supporter Spotlight - Ken Woods Ken Woods

UBC graduate and noted philanthropist Ken Woods says that his experience as a student at UBC prompted him to donate $1 million to fund student-athlete awards. Having worked his way through university, Ken himself did not have time to participate in varsity athletics. Understanding the sacrifices student athletes make, he hopes to provide them with the space to pursue their goals.
