Scott Secord helped lead the UBC Thunderbirds men’s golf team to a tie for second at the Association of Independent Institutions Championship Tournament in Victoria, Texas this week.

The Thunderbirds finished three shots behind the champions from California State University - San Marcos. Ranked in the NAIA Top 10 all season, the Thunderbirds will most likely earn an at-large bid to the NAIA Men’s Golf Championships May 19-22 at the LPGA International course in Daytona Beach, Florida.

A fourth-year player from Calgary, Secord finished third overall in the A.I.I. Championship, shooting one-under over the 54 holes (71-73-71).

Second is the reigning Canadian University individual champion and represented Canada at the World University Golf Championships in Switzerland last summer.

The Thunderbirds have a strong season, winning a pair of tournaments in the fall and finishing fourth at a pair of NCAA heavy tournaments and second at this week’s conference championship.
