Support UBC Athletics & Recreation by getting involved with one of our priority projects.
At this time priority projects include, but are not limited to the followingÂ
UBC Sport Facilities and initiatives. The University of British Columbia's Sport Facilities are world-class and are open for both on-campus and off-campus communities. From the various fields, gyms, and fitness spaces, all these areas are accessible to students, staff, faculty and community members and are also available for private bookings.

New UBC Recreation Centre

Athletics and Recreation is a vital part of UBC campus life and culture. It provides current students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members a place to support lifelong health and wellbeing. The UBC Athletics and Recreation department is pleased to announce a game changing capital campaign project, ActivateUBC.Â
The ActivateUBC campaign is the final piece of the puzzle that will complete the funding to make this vision of a new Fitness and Activity Centre a reality.Â
We need your support today more than ever to realize our goals of bringing UBC a brand new, state of the art Fitness and Activity Centre to campus.Â

Marilyn Pomfret Memorial Award for Women in Athletics
The Marilyn Pomfret Memorial Award for Women in Athletics has been created through an endowment established by Lynda Hamilton in memory of a pioneer in women's athletics here at UBC. From her tenure as a student-athlete to her role as UBC's Women's Athletic Director, Marilyn Pomfret dedicated herself to advancing opportunities for women in sports.Â
This award recognizes and celebrates Marilyn’s remarkable legacy of lobbying for increased funding and opportunities for women in sport, her coaching and mentorship of countless athletes and administrators and her collaboration with nationwide athletic directors to introduce national championships for women’s university sports.
Through donations and support from the community UBC Athletics aims to bolster this endowment and create more opportunities to see our women athletes and coaches develop and thrive.Â

UBC Thunderbirds Mental Health Initiative

UBC Athletics is thrilled to announce the Mas Yukawa Foundation has made a generous gift towards providing much-needed mental health support for the 600+ Thunderbird athletes and coaches. Starting in the Fall of the 2023 academic year, the Foundation will provide seed funding of $50,000 to sponsor the UBC Thunderbirds Mental Health Initiative, a program to provide dedicated, in-house professional mental health support. The foundation has pledged $10,000 per year for five years while UBC Athletics has secured bridge funding which will ensure expanded support is in place for student-athletes.
UBC Athletics is actively looking for donations and support from the community to ensure long-term support and security for the Thunderbird Mental Health Initiative.
