1. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

1.       Course Load Requirements
A student-athlete must be registered in a minimum of three (3) courses (9 credit hours or equivalent), in the term in which they are competing within U SPORTS, unless there are circumstances within their academic program which would warrant an exception to this ruling and in which the university continues to declare this individual a full-time student in that term (e.g. graduate students, co-op students, registered students with accommodations from the Center for Accessibility).

Student-athletes registered for accommodations through the Center for Accessibility are eligible provided that their post-secondary institution has deemed that they are enrolled in the equivalent of a full course load and that they are students in good standing. A letter from the Center for Accessibility is required in order for Student Athlete Services to verify the accommodation and the credit load required for these students.

A student-athlete must maintain full time status throughout the year. At any time throughout the academic year, course loads reduced below the required number of units will constitute ineligible status. Ineligible status will result in forfeit of competitions where the ineligible student-athlete participated.

2.     Participation While Ineligible
Any student who participates in U SPORTS competition while ineligible shall not be permitted to compete for the balance of the competitive year, shall be charged with an additional year of eligibility and shall not be permitted to compete in the succeeding year. 3.     Academic Standing
A student-athlete must successfully complete a minimum of three (3) full courses, or six (6) half courses, or eighteen (18) semester hours during the academic year, unless there are circumstances within their academic program which would warrant an exception to this ruling, in order to be considered a student in good standing.

In order to be eligible for U SPORTS competition, a student-athlete who has attended and been charged with a year of eligibility in a recognized sport of U SPORTS at a degree granting post-secondary institution must have been a student in good standing in that year.

Any student-athlete who is ineligible to compete in U SPORTS competition because the athlete is no longer a student in good standing, must successfully complete within an academic year; three (3) full courses, or six (6) half courses, or eighteen (18) semester hours at a recognized post-secondary institution where courses are recognized for credit. The student-athlete is eligible for participation immediately upon successful completion of the above academic requirements.
