Tommy Nixon set the tone for the UBC Thunderbirds men’s basketball this past weekend as the ‘Birds swept the Saskatchewan Huskies in their final games of the 2014 calendar year.

A fifth-year player from Vancouver, Nixon scored 30 points on Friday night and added seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals in 38 minutes of work, as UBC defeated Saskatchewan 101-94. He hit five straight three pointers at one point and finished the night 13-for-14 from the charity stripe.

On Saturday, he only needed to play 25 minutes as the Thunderbirds cruised to a 99-75 win over the Huskies. Nixon scored five points and chipped in with five assists and three rebounds. More importantly he helped UBC to back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The Kinesiology student is 11th in the Canada West in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game, along with 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 steals.

UBC will return to Canada West regular season action January 9-10 on the road against the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
