MUSCLE MLK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

For a third straight year UBC’s Coleman Allen was named the Canada West Male Swimmer of the Meet at the Canada West Swimming Championship in Lethbridge, leading the Thunderbirds to the 15th Canada West title in the program’s history.
Over the three-day event, the fourth-year student-athlete from Spokane, Washington set three individual Canada West records in the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, and 100m backstroke. He also was part of a record setting relay team for UBC in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Other gold medals for Allen came in the 4x100m freestyle relay, and the 4x100m medley relay. He also won a silver medal in the 200m freestyle.
It was a record setting weekend for the UBC men’s swim team. Allen, along with his teammates, became the first men’s team to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau. The UBC Thunderbirds finished with 1,000 points, 360 points more than second place Alberta.
Allen and the Thunderbirds will go in search of UBC’s first CIS men’s swimming championships since 2012, February 19-21 in Victoria, BC
