Despite falling to the Calgary Dinos 49-16 on the road, the UBC Thunderbirds got a big individual defensive effort from fourth-year linebacker and Canada West Defensive Player of the Week Mitch Barnett (North Vancouver) over the weekend.

The veteran had 8.5 tackles on the night, along with three sacks - one off the UBC single game record.

Barnett's trio of sacks was the most in the conference Week 1, with nine Canada West players recording a single sack to open the season.
