Navid Mashinchi led the No.1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team to back-to-back wins against Victoria and Fraser Valley on the opening weekend of the 2014 Canada West regular season.
The fifth-year midfielder from Port Moody, BC scored the game winning goal in both games this weekend. On Friday in the provincial capial, Mashinchi scored his first goal of the season in the 58th minute to put the Thunderbirds in front 2-0. They would go on to beat the Victoria Vikes 3-1. He also picked up an assist on the first goal of the game from Niall Cousens.
Two days later in Abbotsford, BC, Mashinchi potted the lone goal of the game in the 81st minute as the Thunderbirds defeated the University of Fraser Valley 1-0.
Mashinchi is in his final season with the Thunderbirds and is a three-time First Team Canada West All-Star, a former Second Team All-Canadian, and a two-time CIS Champion.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Homecoming Weekend when they play host to the University of Northern BC Timberwolves for a pair of games, Saturday September 13 at 2:00 pm at Varsity Field and Sunday September 14 at 2:00 pm at Thunderbird Stadium.
