UBC's Bruce Yari has been named the NAIA West's Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week.
Yari, a sophomore from Waterloo, Ont., was a deadly force at the plate this past weekend against the Simpson (Calif.) Red Hawks, recording 11 hits in 18 at-bats, including a triple. The first baseman drove in six runs and scored five as the Thunderbirds swept the four-game series against Simpson.
The four victories allowed UBC to clinch the No. 1 seed for the NAIA West Grouping playoffs, which the school will host May 2-5 in Vancouver. Yari finishes the regular season as the team leader in batting average (.372).
