The UBC Thunderbirds have more National Championship wins than any other varsity program in Canada with over 125 U SPORTS National Championships and over 240 athletes that have competed as Olympians. Do you want to be recruited to one of the top universities in Canada?
The UBC Thunderbirds Men's Basketball Team
The UBC Thunderbirds Men's Basketball has won 20 Canada West/WCIAA Championships in their history, including five since 2007 - as many as any other varsity school in Canada West. They have a history of excellence when it comes to recognition of their team and athletes:
- 9 Canada West first team All-Stars, 4 second team All-Stars, 4 third team All-Stars, and 5 All-Rookies in the last 10 years
- 8-time Pacific Division Champions
- 2 first team All-Canadian, 3 second team All-Canadian and 1 All-Rookie selection in the last 10 years
- Two members of the 2017-2018 Thunderbirds team won silver with Team Canada at 2018 Commonwealth Games
Head Coach Phil Jalalpoor
- Canada West All-Star and three-time Academic All-Canadian as a UBC Men's Basketball player, and UBC's 2018 Outstanding Graduating Male Athlete award winner
- Played professionally in Spain, Austria, Germany and Iceland before retiring and beginning his coaching career in 2024
- Represented Iran at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo
The Recruiting Process
We are looking for student athletes who are committed to the pursuit of excellence at the highest level, on both the court and in the classroom. We think it is important to be engaging with and being part of a supporting, active, and high-achieving varsity athlete culture through other varsity events and the Thunderbird Athletic Council.
