BURNABY LAKE, BC - The UBC Thunderbirds men's rowing team edged out the University of Victoria Vikes to retain their Western Canadian University Championship Title Saturday afternoon at Burnaby Lake, thanks to wins in the Varsity Men's 8+, Lightmen's 4+ and 2x, 2V 2- and Varsity 1x.
"It was a great day of racing and a chance to work out some regatta kinks in our first opportunity at the start line in a while," said T-Birds men's head coach
Mike Pearce. "We had a few missteps in some events but managed to pull through for the points tally."

On the women's side, UVic wrestled the WCURC '24 title away from an under-represented defending champion Thunderbirds squad. UBC was forced to scratch from key races due to illness which dented their chances against a strong Vikes crew. UBC was able to achieve some impressive wins in the Varsity 1x, 2V 1x and 2V8+.

Next up for the Thunderbirds, they'll head to east coast waters to compete in the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. Where UBC will take on some the world's top university crews in the Championships Men's 8+ and Lightweight Men's 4+ beginning Friday October, 18th through Sunday October, 20th.
