CALGARY – The UBC Thunderbirds (3-1-0-0) earned six valuable road points over the weekend as they defeated the Calgary Dinos (1-2-0-1) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The win comes less than 24 hours after the 'Birds downed the Dinos 4-1 in a one-sided game with the ice titled in UBC's favour.
Second year goalie Kelsey Roberts was outstanding for the Dinos, stopping 38 of 39 shots in the losing effort. However, UBC goalie
Amelia Boughn was just as good, stopping all 19 shots fired her way for the shutout. ?
Hannah Clayton-Carroll scored the game's only goal with just under three minutes left in the third period.
"We played ok, we definitely didn't steal one," said UBC head coach
Graham Thomas. "We had a lot of chances that we couldn't bury and their goalie stood on her head again."
With 2:50 to play, UBC got on the board as a two-on-one chance saw Clayton-Carroll snipe a top-shelf laser to put her team ahead.
"I got it off the wall and noticed quickly we were on a two-on-one," explained Clayton-Carroll. "We were talking with the coaches over video that she (Roberts) would leave the left side open. I saw the opening, shot it there and it went in."
UBC will stay on the road next weekend with two games in Regina against the Cougars.
