Outside hitter Quentin Schmidt was instrumental for the UBC Thunderbirds as they went into Winnipeg and swept the Manitoba Bisons in their best-of-three Canada West quarter-final series.
 
He knocked down a team-high 19 kills in UBC’s 3-2 win on Friday night. The Calgary native had eight of those kills in the final two sets, as the Thunderbirds rallied from a two sets to one deficit.
 
Then on Saturday, the fifth-year Forestry student tied for the team lead with 14 kills and just one attack error to help UBC complete the series victory.
 
In two weekend triumphs, Schmidt collected 36 kills overall and recorded an excellent .406 hitting percentage.
 
UBC will now face top-seeded hosts Alberta in the semifinals at the Canada West Final Four championship tournament in Edmonton.
