Maria Bernard won the six-kilometre Women’s Open race at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle on Saturday, finishing as the only runner to complete the race in under 21 minutes.

Racing on a fast course in nice weather, the senior from Calgary clocked a time of 20 minutes and 37 seconds, 55 seconds ahead of her closest rival.

Bernard’s performance helped her UBC Thunderbirds, ranked third in the NAIA, to the victory in the team competition with 34 points.

UBC will have a week off before heading to Salem, Oregon for Willamette University’s Charles Bowles Invitational on October 4.
