Fourth-year guard Kris Young was instrumental in UBC clinching second place in the Canada West Pacific Division and a home series to begin the league playoffs.

Young led the team with 22 points and added five rebounds in UBC's 85-73 loss to Victoria on Friday.

Needing a victory to secure second place in the Pacific and home-court advantage in the Canada West quarter-finals, UBC got a spectacular performance from Young on Saturday. The North Vancouver, B.C. native scored 30 points, a career high for a regulation game, on 11-of-22 shooting from the field to give the T-Birds a 79-69 win. Young also grabbed 12 rebounds to complete of one her best games ever at UBC.

Her performance moved her into a tie for fourth in the Canada West in scoring with 17.6 points a game.

With the victory on Saturday, UBC will host the third-place team from the Prairie Division, the Saskatchewan Huskies, in the quarter-finals of the Canada West women's basketball playoffs in two weeks.
