UBC Thunderbirds forward Luke Lockhart scored the first shorthanded hat trick in the history of the Canada West in a 9-2 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on November 29.

The Burnaby, B.C. native broke the old league record of two shorthanded goals in a game, a benchmark shared by 20 players.

The first-year forward opened the scoring at 9:24 of the first period and then made it 2-0 for his UBC team by tallying an unassisted goal at 18:18 of the first.

Lockhart completed the hat trick with his third goal at 7:57 of the second period, which put UBC up 7-1.

His two first-period shorthanded goals also tied the Canada West record for most in a period. That feat has been achieved only six other times, most recently on Jan. 13, 2006.

Lockhart added an assist in Saturday's 3-1 UBC victory to cap off a four-point weekend.
