It wasn't their most dominant performance of the season, but the UBC Thunderbirds took care of business on the road in a 2-1 victory over the Alberta Pandas.
The T-Birds were outshot 35-20 on the night, but Elise Hugens stood tall in goal once again, making 34 saves (and stopping 62 of 63 shots faced on the weekend overall). Seniors Ashton Thorpe and Makenzie McCallum provided the goals as UBC left Edmonton with a weekend sweep.
Alberta certainly wasn't happy after being shutout in the first meeting on Friday night, and they came out strong with a goal just three minutes in. It didn't take long for the Thunderbirds to respond though, as Thorpe sniped one through traffic on the power play for her first goal of the season.

The T-Birds were under pressure in the back half of the period, as they were called for four penalties in the final nine minutes of the first. The defence held strong though, as the 'Birds killed off all four of the power plays.
Just like the first, the second period started with an early goal. This time though it was UBC who got it, as Makenzie McCallum scooped up a rebound from a Meadow Carman shot and knocked it home on the backhand. Kasundra Betinol nearly extended the lead just a couple minutes later on a backdoor feed, but just missed getting her stick on the puck.
There was no more scoring in the middle frame, as Hugens made 11 saves in the period. She was even busier in the third, as the T-Birds were outshot 15-4 by a desperate Pandas team.
Despite the amount of activity in their own zone, the Thunderbirds shut the door on the hosts, coming away with the victory. It's the fourth straight win for UBC, three of them coming away from home.
The T-Birds now return to the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre for four straight home games. First up are two meetings against MacEwan on November 1st and 2nd. Next Friday's game begins at 7:00 p.m. (PT).
