SASKATOON, SK - The UBC Thunderbirds suffered their first setback of the season in dropping a a 76-63 decision to the undefeated Saskatchewan Huskies at the Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex Friday evening. The loss sees the T-Birds record fall to 4-1 while the Huskies improved to 5-0 on the Canada West season.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
· After an intense first 10 minutes of back and forth, the Thunderbirds held the lead heading into the second. The Huskies were just getting started after Gage Grassick hit another buzzer-beater to finish the quarter, trailing the Thunderbirds by two.
· By half-time, the Huskies had gained the lead, making it 36-30 as the game reached half. Olivia Weekins led the overall scoring at the half with 15 points in the first 20 minutes.
· UBC refused to let up, keeping the game close. The Huskies widened the gap, finishing the third with a nine-point lead.
· The Huskies held the pace in the fourth, with Gage Grassick leading the pack, putting up seven points in the fourth.
THE STATS
· Saskatchewan's Gage Grassick led the team in points, putting up 20 for the team with five rebounds. Carly Ahlstrom and Tea DeMong also put up double digits for the Huskies, Ahlstrom leading the team in rebounds with 12.
· UBC's Olivia Weekes led the team in points and rebounds, putting up 24 points and six rebounds on the night. Mona Berlitz followed with 11 points and five rebounds.
