CALGARY –
Chanreet Bassi scored the lone goal for UBC as the Thunderbirds fell 3-1 to the host Calgary Dinos Saturday afternoon in Canada West women's hockey action.
Â
Calgary completes the sweep after a 3-0 shutout Friday night.
Â
Despite UBC outshooting the Dinos 26-16 for the game, the home side went up 3-0 Saturday on first-period goals by Elizabeth Lang and a second-period marker by Kira Makuk.
Â
With five minutes remaining in the second, the Thunderbirds got on the scoreboard, as Bassi converted after a scrum in front of the net. The goal was her third of the season.
Â
The Dinos opened the game strong with Lang showing off her lethal shot. The Thunderbirds were called for tripping 2:47 into the period and with 40 seconds remaining on the power play, Taylor Beck set up Lang in the offensive zone with plenty of room to snap off a wrist shot for her ninth goal of the season.Â
Â
Three minutes after her opening goal, Lang intercepted a Thunderbirds' clearing attempt and went top shelf for her second goal of the night and the eventual game winner.
Â
Makuk extended the Dinos lead to 3-0 at 2:34 of the second period after capitalizing on a 2-on-1 chance with Beck.
Â
UBC goaltender
Reese Hiddleston made her first start at the university level.
Â
Her counterpart Kelsey Roberts stopped 25 of the 26 shots she faced for the victory.
Â
The Dinos will head east next week to take on the Manitoba Bisons, while UBC returns home to host the Regina Cougars. Both weekend sets begin Jan. 10.
