KELOWNA, B.C. – Six UBC men's basketball players, including every starter, reached double digits in scoring as the Thunderbirds routed the UBC Okanagan Heat 112-57 in Canada West play Friday night in Kelowna, B.C.
Senior guard
Manroop Clair was spectacular with a near-triple-double performance that included 25 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. He shot 66.7 per cent, making 10 of 15 attempts from the field, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc.
Forward
Grant Shephard of Kelowna poured in 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for UBC, on 9 of 14 shooting from the field. Guards
Jadon Cohee and
Grant Audu recorded 17 and 16, respectively.
Zack Moore and
Brian Wallack each had 10 points, with Moore also grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Thunderbirds opened the game on a 10-0 run, and never looked back. Cohee's triple at the end of the first quarter left UBC ahead 28-10. His basket was part of a 20-2 run that bridged the first and second periods.

A pair of Shephard foul shots capped off a 14-3 surge that finished the half, which concluded with the 'Birds ahead 57-17.
UBC Okanagan was much improved in the second half, scoring 40 points after the mid-game break. The Thunderbirds, though, were still able to build on their lead, after halftime. Moore hit a jumper with just over 2:30 left in the third to provide the final points in a 17-2 spurt that gave UBC a 53-point lead. It was the largest gap between the teams until the final bucket of the game, a Wallack three-pointer, put the difference at 55.
As a team, the 'Birds shot a blistering 57.1 per cent from the field, making 44 of 77 shots, including 12 of 27 (44.4 per cent) from long distance. UBC outscored UBC Okanagan 50-18 in the paint, and held a 50-33 advantage in rebounds at the game's end.
The Thunderbirds (5-2) and Heat (1-6) will play against Saturday night at 6 p.m. PT.
