VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds dominated from start to finish Friday night, full value for a 3-0 win over the visiting Manitoba Bisons at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
The Thunderbirds (3-2-0-2) scored on the power play, killed off the only penalty they took, and Tory Micklash made 10 saves for her second shutout of the season as the Bisons (2-5-0-0) failed to generate much of anything on the night.
"We played 60 minutes, every line was going, everyone was working hard," said a pleased UBC head coach Graham Thomas. "We just kept playing the same way every single shift and that allowed us to capitalize on a couple quick strikes at the end there."

The eventual game winner came midway through the first period on the power play when Mikayla Ogrodniczuk hammered a slap shot from the high slot for her second goal of the season. The marker also served as the first power play goal conceded this year by the Bisons, as well as the first goal against by Manitoba goaltender Erin Fargey.
UBC outshot the Bisons 27-10 on the night, but couldn't beat Fargey again until the later stages of the third when the T-Birds struck twice within a 31 second span.
First it was Shay-Lee McConnell at the 14:24 mark who put a rebound off the end boards into the Manitoba net for her first of the season. Hannah Clayton-Carroll then put the game on ice with her team-leading third of the season, another rebound, this time off a Jaedon Cooke shot that came hard off Fargey's pad.

The game featured just three combined power plays, two of them for UBC who finished 1-for-2 on the night.
"Now we're starting to turn the corner," added Thomas. "We feel really happy with the kind of hockey the team's playing right now."
With points in five straight games, the 'Birds will go for their first weekend sweep of the season Saturday afternoon when they host the Bisons once again. Puck drop at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is set for 2:00 p.m. PT.
