Bradwell shines as 'Birds take series finale over Corban

KEIZER, Oregon – James Bradwell pitched a complete game gem for the UBC Thunderbirds (4-7, 9-15) who closed out a four-game series against the Corban Warriors (6-2, 16-11) with a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon at Volcanoes Stadium.

Bradwell allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out eight Corban batters picking up his first win of the season while snapping a five-game losing skid for the 'Birds who improve to 4-7 in conference play.

Corban's Caleb Henry pitched well in the loss throwing 6.1 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out three.

The Thunderbirds went ahead in the fourth frame thanks to an RBI single from Anthony Olson. Mitch Robinson then made it 2-0 in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom half of the frame, Andrew Axmaker stole second base and Daniel Freiburger stole home, cutting the deficit in half. The Warriors had a chance to tie it that same inning, but Corban was unable to come through with the timely hit when needed.

UBC ultimately added on a pair of insurance runs in the ninth and Bradwell closed the door to finish off the complete-game performance.

Olson finished the game 3-for-5 while Austen Butler went 3-for-4 as the T-Birds outhit the Warriors 12-7.

The Thunderbirds return home but are back on the road next weekend for a trio of non-conference games starting Saturday, March 17 with a tilt against Seattle University in Bellevue, Washington.

UBC will then open up the brand new Thunderbird Park with a return to conference play the following weekend as the Oregon Tech Owls pay a visit for a four-game series starting Saturday, March 24.
