LEDUC, Alta. – The UBC men's and women's teams rowed to banner triumphs Saturday in Leduc, Alta., winning the Western Canadian University Rowing Championships.
 
It is the second WCURC title in three years for the women's team, while it is the second-consecutive win for the men.
 
The conditions were very challenging with a strong cross wind and below freezing temperatures but the Thunderbirds pushed through winning 12 gold medals, three silvers, and four bronzes and demonstrated good depth throughout the program.
 
Points were contributed for the banner by both varsity and junior varsity squads. The event provided a great opportunity to test combinations and boat speed for the upcoming Canadian University Championships Nov. 3-4 in St. Catharines, Ont.
