VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds swept their non-conference baseball doubleheader with Thompson Rivers without giving up a run on Saturday. The T-Birds took Game 1 1-0 and Game 2 10-0 against the WolfPack at Thunderbird Park.
Mitch Robinson, a 2014 Miami Marlins draft pick, had a solid Thunderbirds debut, going a combined 4-for-7 with an RBI over his first two games.
"It was good, getting to play with the guys…it was exciting. It's always exciting to play in front of the home crowd for the first time," said Robinson.
The Cloverdale native chose to play university baseball after getting drafted straight out of high school, and is looking forward to the upcoming season.
"We have a chance to win every time we go out and it's going to be a lot of fun to see what we can do."
In the opener, Thunderbird right fielder
Geoff Ehresman got the 'Birds on the board in the second inning, singling and scoring from second on a WolfPack error.
Thompson Rivers stranded four runners in the opening tilt, while UBC starting pitcher
Connor Noble went six strong innings giving up three hits and earning seven strikeouts. Patrick Van den Brink picked up the save for the T-Birds.
