UBC dominates in their fall finale

VANCOUVER - The Thunderbirds finished their second double header against Thompson Rivers by giving up only one run in four games at Thunderbird Park over the weekend.

In an 8-1 win to start the day, Mitch Robinson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Vinny Martin added two hits and 3 RBI en route to the victory.

UBC pitcher Brad Smith was satisfied with his start, but acknowledged room for improvement.

"At the beginning I struggled a little bit, but as the game progressed I definitely felt a lot more comfortable. The two-seamer was working, I was getting it down in the zone – especially in that fourth inning I was feeling confident in hitting my spots."

Smith struck out 7 of the 14 batters he faced over 4 innings, giving up three hits and one walk.

Geoff Ehresman had a strong showing at the plate in Game 2, going 2 for 2 and bringing 3 runners across the dish in a 6-0 Thunderbird shutout.

Strong pitching performances by Kyle Stubbins, Niall Windeler, and Owen Kelly held TRU to four hits in the fall finale.

UBC Head Coach Chris Pritchett was impressed with how his team improved over the span of 8 games, and is looking forward to cultivating his roster over the coming months.

"It's shaping up to be a very competitive fall – there's a lot of good players competing for positions but they're all supporting each other. Some freshman are jumping up and taking the ball…not really showing any nerves. It's a good problem to have, it gives us a lot of options."

The T-Birds will continue developing at their state-of-the-art indoor training centre until the NAIA season starts up in the New Year.
