RIO DE JANEIRO– Sunday morning at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the LTAMixed4+ of Curtis Halladay, Meghan Montgomery, Victoria Nolan, Andrew Todd and Kristen Kit rowed to a bronze medal finish in a tight race with Great Britain, reigning World Champions, taking first place.
The first-ever medal won by Canada in para-rowing ends a great regatta for the crew who finished second in their heat and then first in the repechage to race for today's medal.
"Before this race, we all committed to each other about giving every ounce of what we've got," said Halladay.
"We started to go earlier than usual to try and catch the US," added Kit. "We had a great effort from everyone and almost caught them. I'm so proud and pleased with our performance."
In a tight race that came down to the finish line, the United States of America rowed to an early lead with Canada and Great Britain close behind. Great Britain, gold medallists from London 2012, pushed ahead securing first place and leaving the USA and Canada to battle for the silver medal. With Canada closing in at the finish line, second and third place were only separated by 0.29 of a second.
