UPDATE -Â UBC rowers scored a hat trick Friday at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. In the final race involving a Thunderbird team of the day,
Leah Taylor and
Julia Lindsay came out on top in the U-23 Women's Lightweight Pairs. The UBC student-athletes finished the 2000 metre race in a time of 7:29.22, more than ten seconds ahead of the second place team.

Two UBC rowers have struck gold at the Royal Canadian Henly Regatta. Third-year student-athlete
Harris Sheldon started the festivities for the Thunderbirds with a gold in the U-23 Men's Single. The rower lovingly referred to as "Shelly Babe" by his teammates crossed the 2000 metre finish line with a time of 6:55.87, beating the second place rower by nearly three seconds.

It was just minutes later when another third-year Thunderbird made it a Friday daily double for UBC.
Marcus van der Sande rowed away from the competition in the Senior Men's Lightweight Single event, completing the 2000 metre race in a time of 6:51.95. van der Sande cruised to victory, nearly seven seconds ahead of his closet rival.

This is the 134th version of the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, held every year in St. Catherines, Ont. It is considered one of the top club regattas in the entire world and is one of Canada's most historic sporting events.
