Two UBC rowers have struck gold at the Royal Canadian Henly Regatta. Third-year student-athlete Harris Sheldon started the festivities for the Thunderbirds with a gold in the U-23 Men's Single. The rower lovingly referred to as "Shelly Babe" by his teammates crossed the 2000 metre finish line with a time of 6:55.87, beating the second place rower by nearly three seconds.

It was just minutes later when another third-year Thunderbird made it a Friday daily double for UBC. Marcus van der Sande rowed away from the competition in the Senior Men's Lightweight Single event, completing the 2000 metre race in a time of 6:51.95. van der Sande cruised to victory, nearly seven seconds ahead of his closet rival.
