T-Birds Take Rio Day Eleven: Liz Gleadle misses the final but inspires a generation of young Canadian girls

The lone Thunderbird to participate at Rio Tuesday is one of UBC's and Canada's most recognizable stars in the world of track and field. Liz Gleadle entered the javelin competition with her head set on making the final. It wasn't meant to be for the Vancouver native. Gleadle managed a very strong throw of 60.28 metres, which was just under a metre off the necessary distance to throw for medals.

The charismatic Gleadle, who popularized the phrase "Throw Like A Girl" on social media, will probably be disappointed with how her Olympics went.

But the Thunderbird and graduate of the UBC School of Kinesiology can take pride in the fact she's inspired countless young Canadian girls to pick up a javelin and throw it for the stars.
