T-Birds Take Rio Day Ten: A historic win for Blair Bann and the Canadians in men’s volleyball

Men's Volleyball

With their Olympic lives on the line, Blair Bann and his Canadian teammates pulled off one of the biggest wins in this nation's volleyball history. The four set win over the powerful Italians (25-17, 25-23, 16-25, 25-21) assured the Canadians a spot in the Olympic quarterfinals. The gritty Canadian team, who already knocked off the heavily favoured US earlier in the tournament, can finish no worse than 8th spot overall.

This guarantees Canada its best result at the Olympics since the 1984 games in Los Angeles. The Thunderbird volleyball alumni Bann started again for Canada at the libero position. Bann was a multiple All-Canadian while wearing the 'Blue and Gold' at the turn of the decade. Canada's next game will be Wednesday.
