KAMLOOPS - The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's volleyball team swept the visiting and previously undefeated University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 3-0 in Canada West action Friday night (Nov 19). The scores were 25-22,25-18,25-6.
The WolfPack led from wire to wire as they handed the Thunderbirds their first loss of the Canada West Season. TRU was led by 5th year outside hitter Iullia Pakhomenko. She had 11 kills in 23 chances.
UBC's top offensive threat was
Victoria Behie who had six kills in 19 chances
"None of that was how we wanted it to go. I think our team is a lot better than what we showed tonight," said UBC Head Coach
Doug Reimer. "It is what it is. When the wheels started to come off, we have to reflect on how to stem the bleeding."
"It wasn't any one phase tonight but without a doubt our serve receive completely broke down. We need to be better and generally when you are on the road you usually are. Some of it tonight was TRU. I thought they defended really well," added Reimer. "They kept the ball in play and did a good job. When you look at the first set, we made too many unforced errors. They kept getting better and we went the other direction. I am pretty sure we will be better tomorrow. Our team is better than that. You have to do it on the day and today we weren't there at all mentally tonight."
The two teams will re-match tomorrow at 5pm in Kamloops.
