Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Len Catling (Sr. Manager, Communications and Media Relations)

UBC bounces back and bounces Wolfpack in straight sets

KAMLOOPS – The UBC women's volleyball (5-1) team needed a bounce back performance and delivered just that in a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-16, 25-23) of the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (4-4) Saturday night. The 'Birds enacted a semblance of revenge for being swept themselves on Friday evening.

Danielle Brisebois was a powerhouse for the T-Bird attack finishing 18 of her 31 kill attempts, while Samantha Patko played stingy defense and ended up with 10 digs. Maggie Li was also a tower of efficiency for UBC, finishing 8 of her 11 kill attempts, while Allesandra Gentile recorded a whopping 21 assists.

For Thompson Rivers, reigning CIS Player of the Year Iuliia Pakhomenko was not near as dominant as she was in Friday's victory over the 'Birds. The Ukrainian superstar hit at a .289 kill percentage, well below her average.

UBC Head Coach Doug Reimer gave full marks for his squad's ability to regroup from Friday's disappointment.

"Obviously very pleased with the complete turnaround this evening.  We had great jump and our offence led by Danielle and Maggie and keyed by Alessandra set a great tone," said Reimer. "But it really was a more complete team effort, with improved passing and ball control and that includes the contributions from players off the bench. Laura Worsley serving and back row play was key in sets 2 and 3."

UBC will now return to the friendly confines of War Memorial Gym for a massive early season match-up with their cross Metro Vancouver rival Trinity Western on Friday. The teams will then play a re-match Saturday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre. In last week's U Sports top ten ranking the Spartans were given the number five position, while the T-Birds nestled in at number six.
