CALGARY, AB. – The UBC Thunderbirds women's field hockey team put a nice cap on their weekend trip to Calgary with a 7-0 victory over the Dinos Sunday afternoon. The win comes on the heels of Saturday's 6-0 victory in Calgary.
Seven players recorded goals for UBC in the lopsided win as the Birds enjoyed a 4-0 lead by halftime.
"Calgary were a capable team and they kept battling for the entire 70 minutes," said UBC Head Coach
Robin D'Abreo. "We struggled to find our rhythm early in the game but I'm happy that we kept our composure and stuck to the game plan."
For the second consecutive day UBC goalkeeper
Gabriella Switzer recorded the shutout. The win pulls UBC into a first place tie in the Canada West standings with Victoria. Both teams have identical 2-0-2 records.
"We still have a lot of improving to do but the performances this weekend were a step in the right direction," added D'Abreo.
UBC's next action sees them travel to Victoria for a first-place showdown with the Vikes on October 8th and 9th.
