CALGARY, AB – The UBC Thunderbirds recorded their first win of the season in a major way by downing the Calgary Dinos 5-0 to raise their 2016 record to 1-0-2.
Â
Margaret Pham scored twice, once before halftime and again just after the break, for the 'Birds and
Gabriella Switzer recorded the shutout, as UBC pulled within three points of the Canada West leading UVic Vikes.

Â
"This game was more about us focusing on our game plan and I think that game was a decent start to the series," said UBC Head Coach
Robin D'Abreo. "Our transition game in midfield was improved today but I feel we still have some work to do with our possession at both ends of the field."
Â
The game was scoreless through the first 14 minutes before
Meghan Hayden and
Rachel Donohoe tallied twice within three minutes. UBC never looked back from there.
Stephanie Norlander scored the fifth goal for the 'Birds in the 53rd minute to round out the scoring.
Â
Â
"In attack we need to be more composed and structured in the circle," added D'Abreo. "We need to be simpler and more efficient coming out of our end. "
Â
The two teams will be back at Sunday at 10:00am (PT).Â
