VANCOUVER – The No. 9 UBC Thunderbirds women's volleyball team will be at home this weekend, taking on the No. 5 Trinity Western University Spartans.
  
The Thunderbirds are currently 10-8 this season, sixth in the Canada West league standings. The top seven teams make the playoffs and UBC has games in hand on the two teams above them with just three weeks left in the regular season. At 14-4, the Spartans have clinched a postseason berth.
 
UBC split its series at Brandon last weekend, the Bobcats are one of the squads ahead of the T-Birds in playoff positioning.

The hosts won in five sets on Friday night while UBC clinched a split with a dominant three-set triumph on Saturday. Brandon lost night to Winnipeg to fall to 11-8. Danielle Brisebois averages 3.6 points per set, seventh in the Canada West, to lead UBC.
 
Last weekend, the Spartans also improved in the standings by sweeping the MacEwan Griffins after two 3-0 match wins, extending their winning streak to 11 matches. Outside hitter Sophie Carpentier is fifth in the conference with an average of 3.9 points per set.
 
The last time UBC and TWU faced other was at the West Coast Classic in October. The two squads split the first two sets by identical 25-15 scores, but the momentum was with the Spartans after they won the second set and they used it to claim the next two as well for a 3-1 win over UBC (15-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21).  
 
First serve at War Memorial Gym is on Friday at 6 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
