VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds women's hockey triumphed in Calgary to resume Canada West regular season play, capturing a 4-2 win over the host Dinos with two goals from
Stephanie Schaupmeyer and singles from
Rebecca Unrau and
Nicole Saxvik.

It was Unrau who opened the scoring at 3:34 of the first frame, putting a shot past Calgary goaltender Amanda Tapp on her blocker side.
Jenna Carpenter-Boesch and
Nikola Brown-John got the assists.
Dino Stephanie Zvonkovic tied up the game with just under five minutes remaining in the first period, but the 'Birds did not hesitate to bite back with Saxvik scoring UBC's second goal to quickly gain back the lead.
The Dinos would again equalize the score six minutes into the second, and it would not be until 11:51 in the third period when the T-Birds would take the reigns once again off a goal from Schaupmeyer, who would seal off the night with a second goal, this time into an empty net, rounding out the scoring with the 'Birds ahead 4-2.
UBC goaltender
Samantha Langford nabbed the win, stopping 17 of 19 shots. Calgary's Amanda Tapp would walk away with the loss - after turning aside 23 of 26 shots on the night.
Tatiana Rafter increased her lead atop the league scoring race by recording three assists. The UBC forward now has 23 points in 17 games, three ahead of Saskatchewan's Cami Wooster.
Of eight power play opportunities, the Thunderbirds capitalized on one. The Dinos were successful on 2 of 7.
UBC remains in first place in the Canada West conference standings with a record of 13-3-1, while Calgary sits in a tie for sixth at 7-9-1.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. Pacific for the second game of the two-game road trip.
