Calgary, AB - The UBC Thunderbirds women's hockey won their fourth straight game defeating Mount Royal University 4-1 Friday night in Calgary. With the victory UBC moved into a tie for first in the Canada West with Regina with a record of 6-2-1.Â

Mount Royal came flying out of the gates in the beginning half of the first period, but it was UBC's
Rebecca Unrau who would open the scoring at 4:11 into the opening frame. However, with less then four minutes remaining in the period Emily Harrison would score the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1. However, the Cougars' game would only go downhill from there.
Hannah Heisler put the 'Birds back in front scoring her first career CIS goal with exactly one minute remaining in the first. The Thunderbirds led 2-1 after one.

After the intermission,
Nicole Saxvik tallied an unassisted breakaway goal on Cougars keeper Jess Ross while the Thunderbirds were shorthanded. 3-1 is how things would stand through 40 minutes.

In the third period the top two scorers in the league would combine for the Thunderbirds fourth goal of the night.
Sarah Casorso completed a pass to
Tatiana Rafter, who buried the puck bar-down for her league leading eighth goal of the season and giving the visitors a 4-1 advantage. That would be your final.

Casorso put on another impressive display of consistency and drive at both ends of the ice, winning puck after puck.

An absolute powerhouse this game,
Nicole Saxvik almost exclusively killed a penalty for UBC, containing the puck in Mount Royal's zone with assistance from Casorso at the midpoint of the third. The Cougars' powerplay struggled all night going 0-for-4. UBC was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

Danielle Dube showed her seemingly effortless structure and style over 60 minutes, stopping 24 of 25 shots she faced.

With this win the Thunderbirds successfully extended their winning streak to four games, improving to 6-2-1 on the year. The Cougars' record now sits at 2-7-0.
