Kyla Richey has been named the Canada West's Female Athlete of the Week.
The fifth year outside hitter lead her CIS top-ranked UBC Thunderbirds women's volleyball team (13-1) to two straight home wins over the #5 Manitoba Bisons (9-5) on the weekend with two solid performances.
The native of Roberts Creek, BC recorded 15 kills and 10 digs in a three-set win on Friday night over the Bisons.
On Saturday, Richey bettered that performance in a four-set victory. She recorded 20 kills, 11 digs, four service aces and seven block assists. Her game total of 27.5 points is tied for the third highest in a match in the Canada West this season.
CIS #1 UBC (13-1) remains at the top of the Canada West standings. The team will visit No. 2 Winnipeg this weekend.
Alberta's Jordan Baker was named the Male Athlete of the Week.
