CALGARY - After an 8-1 win Friday, the Calgary Dinos scored four goals in the first period en route to a sweep of the UBC Thunderbirds by a score of 5-1 Saturday evening at Father David Bauer Arena.Â
Elana Lovell led the way for Calgary (5-1-0), amassing three points on the night with a goal and two assists. Lovell also had a +3 rating on the night.

Just 15 seconds after the Lovell goal, Dinos forward Iya Gavrilova was able to get a wrist shot past Butcher, earning her fifth goal and sixth point of the year. Gavrilova was an impressive +4 on the night.

Dinos defender Stephanie Ramsay added some cushion to the lead when a turnover by the Thunderbirds in their own zone allowed Ramsay to score her second goal of the season. Erica Mitchske scored the fourth goal of the period at 12:33 assisted by Erin Davidson and Casey Irving.                                                                                                          Â

After four goals with 12:44 gone in the first period, Thunderbirds rookie coach Jen Rawson had seen enough and brought in Friday night's starting goalie,
Samantha Langford.

The Thunderbirds first hit the scoreboard at the 5:29 mark of the second period. Rookie defenseman
Charissa Church snatched up a high rebound and went top right corner on Dinos goalie Jennifer Mallard.

The Dinos notched their fifth goal of the night at 7:53 into the second period. Forward Calaine Inglis grabbed a rebound in front of the Thunderbird goal and put the puck past Langford on a high wrist shot. The goal was Inglis' first of the season.

Mallard fanned away 15 of 16 shots on goal in her first start of the season, while Thunderbirds starter
Carly Butcher stopped six of the 10 shots she faced before giving way to Langford, who stopped 19 of 20 shots on goal after coming in late in the first period.  Â

The Dinos outshot the Thunderbirds 30-16. The Dinos were also 1-for-6 on the power play with UBC going 1-for-4.

Calgary moves to 5-1-0 after their victory, and are tied for second in Canada West standings with 10 points. UBC falls to 1-4-1 after the loss and sits in last place in the Canada West standings.

The Dinos remain home to host the Regina Cougars next weekend while UBC will host a series against the Alberta Pandas.
