VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds women's hockey team lost 8-1 to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
UBC falls to 1-7-2, while the Bisons improve to 5-3-2.
Second-year forward Maggie Litchfield-Medd did most of the damage, scoring three goals for a hat trick to go with two assists for five points on the night.
Manitoba got off to a quick start on Saturday night.
Just 22 seconds into the game, Litchfield-Medd recorded her first goal.
The Bisons scored goals in the first 25 minutes of the game.
The game was slow-moving, with lots of penalties on both sides.
UBC was assessed nine penalties, two of which gave Manitoba a 5-on-3 opportunity in the second period, which was capitalized on by Litchfield-Medd's second goal.
Goalie Tara Lacquette of Manitoba gave up one goal on ten shots.
Samantha Langford made 22 saves on 25 shots after coming into the game to relieve
Carly Butcher in the second period.
UBC will host Saskatchewan next weekend while Manitoba will travel to Calgary.
