A member of the UBC Men's Basketball coaching staff since 2023, Doug Eberhardt brings a wealth of both high level professional experience and local knowledge to the Thunderbird basketball program. A UBC hoops alumnus, Doug is driven by a philosophy of dedication to his players and a desire to help them reach that next level, both personally and professionally.
A lifelong resident of Vancouver, Doug grew up in Kerrisdale and attended Magee and then Point Grey Secondary Schools, where he excelled on the basketball court and the playing fields. He then moved on to begin his post secondary career for Canadian Hall of Fame coach, Jack Kenyon, at Mount Royal College in Calgary, where he was an All-Star and All-Conference point guard. After two years at Mt. Royal, Doug returned to Vancouver to play for UBC from 1983 - 1986.
Eberhardt commenced his coaching journey a little later in life, following his acclaimed younger brother, Paul Eberhardt, and becoming the Head Coach at their Alma Mater, Magee Secondary School (Vancouver). Doug took the Flyin' Lions to the BC provincial championships at the Agrodome in 2006, twenty years after his brother also took Magee to the BC's and forty-five years after his Father, Don Eberhardt, won a provincial title with the Magee Blackshirts.
Doug later served as the Associate Coach at Charles Tupper Secondary (Vancouver), teaming with head man Jeff Gourley to help guide the Tigers to three straight placings at the BC provincial tournament.
Beginning in 2008-09, Doug took the next coaching step and began working with various NBA teams as an Assistant Coach during summer league and training camps, and then spending embedded stints with the teams throughout the season. During his career he has worked with the New York Knicks, Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets. He also began working with individual NBA players as a skills and workout coach, getting an opportunity to help players as varied as Danilo Gallinari, Roger Mason Jr., Mike Conley Jr., Quincy Pondexter, Nene, and former NBA 6th Man of the Year, Eric Gordon.
