KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON – After another decorated campaign that earned both the Men's and Women's teams the number one spot on this year's pre-season poll, the UBC Thunderbirds are back in action this week. Opening their 2026-2027 slate, the Birds will travel to the Oregon Tech Invitational in Klamath Falls for two days of top-tier golf, beginning on Monday, September 7 and concluding Tuesday, September 8.

The tournament format has the men play two rounds on Monday and a third on Tuesday, while the women will suit up for one round each day.

The two-day event is the first of three conference tournaments leading up to the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship in April, where the men claimed second while the women won it all in last year's edition.  



The last time the 'Birds travelled to Oregon's Running Y Golf Course was for the opener in 2023-2024, where both the men's and women's squads claimed first in the tournament.

Coming into this year, however, quite a bit has changed, both on the roster and at the helm. This will be the first campaign under the guidance of newly appointed UBC head coach Cory Renfrew. Formerly a standout Thunderbird in his own right, the BC native played the role of program advisor throughout last year. He aided the program in sweeping regular-season conference play, with the women's side claiming conference and national titles while the men finished second and third, respectively.



As for the players, the women's team saw one of the most decorated T-Birds in program history, Jessica Ng, depart through graduation. Stepping up to fill the gap are three talented, local recruits: Cadence Ko, Hui Yu and Mandy Wang.

On the men's side, it's a bit of a different story. Last season, they were made up mainly of first-years with no seniors to speak of on the roster. Richmond-native Aidan Liu is the lone addition to what will be a well-knit group.



With little turnover to speak of, the consistency in the lineup can only bode well for this upcoming season. And with both teams entering the year atop the polls, expectations are high once again for both sets of T-Birds.

Each squad is set to face challenging tests throughout their schedules, including multiple NCAA Division 1 tournaments. The 2026-2027 campaign will provide plenty of opportunities for the T-Birds to push themselves as they continue to build on their established foundation and represent the program on the national stage.

The quest back to the peak begins Monday, September 7, in Klamath Falls for the first day of the Oregon Tech Invitational. Action tees off at 8:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start; the women start on the front nine and the men on the back.
