LEWISTON, Idaho – The UBC Thunderbirds women's golf team (596, +20) has soared to a 17-stroke lead after day two of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship, while the men (578, +2) remain in a close second place, trailing host Lewis-Clark State (572, -4) by six shots.
Both teams found significant improvement in their second of three rounds in the event, with the women (291, +3) shaving 14 strokes off of their day one score, while the men (285, -3) improved by eight.
That saw the T-Birds women go from being tied for the lead with Oregon Tech following round one, to jumping out to a substantial, 17-stroke advantage.
The men actually fell slightly further behind, despite their strong play, seeing the deficit increase by one after L-C State shot a tournament-best round of 284 (-4).
Individually, UBC's
Grace Yao is tied for first at 148 (+4) after a standout second round, improving by eight strokes from day one. She shares the lead with teammate
Keira Hou in a tightly packed field. Fellow Thunderbird
Jessica Ng sits just one stroke back in third place at 149 (+5).
UBC's
Sienna Harder and Oregon Tech's Baylee Hodgman are tied for fourth at 151 (+7). T-Bird
Sarah Yang also cracked the top-10, sitting ninth at 153 (+9).
On the men's side, Bushnell's Matt Forsyth turned in the top performance of the day, shooting 3-under to move into a share of the lead at 141, alongside Lewis-Clark State's Adam Lovatt.
UBC's
Leighton Wright (142, -2) is tied for third, just one stroke back at 142.
Jake Houston and
Aneesh Kaura are among a group of four golfers tied for eighth at 146 (+2).
The final championship round will begin Wednesday morning with all golfers teeing off on hole No. 1 starting at 8:00 a.m. (PT) at the Lewiston Golf & Country Club. Following the conclusion of play, the championship awards ceremony will be streamed live on the CCC Network, where postseason honours will also be announced.
