After testing their mettle against very steep competition at the Canadian Collegiate Invitationals, the T-Bird golf squads will be out on the road once again against some strong opponents at separate two-day tournaments on Monday, September 29th, and Tuesday, September 30th.
The women's team are headed to the Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Washington, an NCAA Division I tournament. The men's team, meanwhile, will be much closer to the border in Bellingham, competing at the Division II WWU Invitational.
Sienna Harder is the lone T-Bird on this year's team who competed at Harbottle last season, when the T-Birds shocked the field to finish in a very impressive third place.
She,
Jessica Ng and
Keira Hou are the nucleus of this season's squad as the only returning players, with Hou winning individual gold at the season-opening Wine Valley Invitational and Harder scoring the best of any T-Bird at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational.
Â
Katherine Hao and
Grace Yao have stood out in the early going as two of the top rookies so far, and they've earned the nod to be part of the five competing at Harbottle. Hao finished tied for seventh individually at her first-ever collegiate tournament in Walla Walla a few weeks ago, while Yao finished just two strokes behind Harder at the Canadian Collegiate, to make her the second-highest scoring T-Bird.
The men's team will be facing a couple of familiar squads at the WWU Invitational, with fellow Canada West schools UBC Okanagan and Victoria joining the 14-team field in Bellingham, less than a month out from the Canada West Championships in Chilliwack.
First-years
Hunter Auramenko and
Manpreet Lalh have made an immediate impact in their first couple tournaments in the program, finishing as two of the top three UBC scorers at both Wine Valley and the Canadian Collegiate.
Aneesh Kaura and
Jake Houston will be counted on to help lead the squad as two of the few returning players on the roster, and Kaura put forth a strong performance two weeks ago in Ontario, finishing as the clear top T-Bird at the tournament.
Both tournaments take place over two days this coming Monday and Tuesday, with both teams shooting 54 holes in total.
