KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds entered the 2025 Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championship as the defending champs on both the men's and women's sides, and they remain the teams to beat after good day one performances.
The T-Birds hit the course at Rivershore Golf Links in Kamloops, where their senior-laden groups aim to end their UBC careers on a high. All five of the athletes representing the men's team are competing in their final tournament, while the same is the case for three of the four female golfers.
Those three T-Bird women all rank in the top four on the individual leaderboard after the first round, with
Una Chou leading the way at -1. She's tied with UBC Okanagan's Julia Alexander-Carew for first place, followed by teammates
Grace Bell (E) and
Bo Brown (+1). The Thunderbirds finished the day nine strokes ahead of the next-best squad, shooting even par as a collective.
The men are four strokes ahead of their closest competition, the Montreal Carabins. While no 'Birds are currently in the top five on the individual leaderboard, the depth and consistency across the lineup has allowed for their early lead as a team.
Aidan Schumer was the top UBC scorer in the opening round with an even par, followed close behind by
John Paul Kahlert (+1), Hudson Lafayette (+1) and
Dylan MacDonald (+2).
The Thunderbirds will try and maintain their respective leads tomorrow, on the second day of the four-round tournament. You can follow along as it happens by clicking the live stats page
