CALDWELL, Ida. – The UBC Thunderbirds had five players amass at least three hits in an offensive showcase to open up their four-game road series with a 19-6 victory over the College of Idaho Yotes Friday afternoon.
The T-Birds (9-8, 5-2) scored four times in the opening frame and tacked on another five in the second, quickly chasing Yotes starter Oliver Massie who took the loss allowing nine runs on nine hits before Jacob Lewis was brought in, promptly forcing a ground out to end the inning.
The Yotes (12-7, 7-2) found some rhythm late in the game scoring in four of the final five innings, but the hole was just far too deep with UBC having opened up a 13-0 lead before the hosts managed to cross the place for the first time in the bottom of the fourth, on a wild pitch.
Trent Lenihan led the charge for the 'Birds going 4-for-6 with three RBI while scoring three times. Freshman
David Krahn was a force at the plate with five hits on seven at-bats with four runs.
Aaron Marsh,
Kyle Yip,
Jonny McGill and
Kenny Scott each put up three hits on the day.
Ryan Beitel picked up his first win of the season going seven innings strong allowing three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Now working on a three-game win streak, the T-Birds continue their first road series of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season with a doubleheader Saturday in Caldwell. First pitch at Wolfe Field is set for 12:00 p.m.
