T-Birds stay perfect with another decisive win

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds (4-0) continued their undefeated run to begin the Canada West campaign with another decisive victory, 74-43 over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (0-4) at the Tournament Capital Centre on Saturday afternoon.

In a stark contrast to Friday's series opener between the two teams, the first half of Saturday's game was tight, with the T-Birds holding a slim 42-37 lead at the break. From there however, the 'Birds re-asserted their defensive dominance, holding the 'Pack to nine and seven points in the final two frames and pulling away for the 31-point win.

The blue and gold forced 42 turnovers from the WolfPack and committed only 17 of their own. UBC's 41-9 advantage in points off of turnovers more than made up for their toughest shooting night so far this season, as TRU held them under 40% from the floor for the first time.

Sofia Bergman was one T-Bird who had no trouble knocking down shots, going a perfect 6/6 from the field as part of her game-high 16 points, adding five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Jessica Clarke enjoyed her best game as a Thunderbird, proving her prowess as a powerful presence in the low post. The Washington Stats transfer poured in 13 points and racked up three steals in just 10 minutes, providing a new element to the already sizzling UBC offence as a back to the basket scoring threat.

Next up for the U SPORTS No.4-ranked T-Birds is a potential revenge series, as they take on the team that eliminated them from the Canada West playoffs last season. The Victoria Vikes visit War Memorial Gym for a back-to-back set on Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th. Tickets are available here.
