KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds (4-0) powered their way to strong 81-60 win over the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (2-2) on Saturday night to sweep the teams' two game series at the Tournament Capital Centre.
While Friday's game was a back and forth affair before the T-Birds pulled away near the end, UBC jumped out to an early advantage on Saturday and never gave it up. The 'Birds jumped out to an eight point lead in the first frame, pushed that to double digits by half-time and slowly built up their advantage further from there, outscoring the 'Pack in every quarter.
The underlying numbers paint a further positive picture for the blue and gold, as they outscored their hosts by 12 in the paint and had 13 more points off of turnovers. It was also another efficient shooting night for UBC, as they knocked down 49% of their shots from the field.
Nikola Guzina was the catalyst of the T-Birds' offence, boosting the team's efficiency numbers by knocking down 7/11 field goals and hitting 10/13 free throws for a game-high 24 points. The emerging big man also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Adam Olsen was the 'Birds' next highest scorer, talling 13 points, including a pair of threes. The sharpshoot brought the defence on Saturday as well, accumulating two steals and a block.
