VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds (2-1-1) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Victoria Vikes (1-1-2) on Sunday morning at Wright Field.
Riley Brown had the lone tally for the 'Birds, while three different goal-scorers led the Vikes to their first regulation victory.
Â
"We're an extremely young team, and so we've been building. I think this is a result of all the hard work they've put in and just taking care of the little things," said Vikes head coach Krista Thompson.
Â
The Vikes responded to Saturday's 2-1 loss with two unanswered goals in the first half. Chloe Langkammer scored off a penalty corner in the first frame, then fed Brooke Furtado in an impressive field goal play.
Â
UBC's goal came in the 41
st minute when
Riley Brown flicked a penalty stroke up and over Vikes keeper Anais Chace. In the last minutes of the game, the Vikes capitalized on an empty UBC net to solidify their victory at 3-1.
Â
The Vikes next host the Calgary Dinos for a doubleheader on September 30
th and October 1
st.
Â
"The Dinos are a very different team than they've been in years past. There's been a lot of improvement," said Thompson. "For us, we get to play our first home games next weekend, so we're just looking to continue to build and stick to the process and see where that takes us."
Â
The Thunderbirds head into a bye week and return to action October 14-15 when they host the Dinos at Wright Field.
