CALGARY -
The UBC Thunderbirds picked up a full three points on Sunday with a 1-0 win over the University of Calgary Dinos at Calgary's Hawkings Field.
Needing a shootout on Saturday to decide a 0-0 game, the Thunderbirds were able to find the back of the net in regulation to begin the season with a pair of road wins.
The Dinos struggled to generate offence in the tightly contested second matchup. The team ran into discipline problems with five cards handed out and could not generate the same attack they had in the opener.
T-Bird midfielderÂ
Birkley Anderson scored the first goal of the weekend five minutes into the third quarter. After UBC earned a penalty stroke, Anderson was given the assignment and beat Dinos goalkeeper Alana Madrid low on her right side to go ahead on the scoreboard.
Reigning Canada West Goalkeeper of the Year
Hannah Rumble picked up her second clean sheet of the weekend, going the distance in the UBC net.
UBC goes into a bye next weekend before hosting the Vikes in their home opener, Saturday September 23rd at 11 a.m. (PT) at Wright Field. Find their full schedule
